Inhotim Institute Tickets
By booking these tickets to the Inhotim Institute, you'll discover the world's largest outdoor museum among contemporary art and beautiful botanical gardens.
Brumadinho calls for 1 to 2 days: a full one for Inhotim and, if you have a second, for the waterfalls, the mountain trails and the Topo do Mundo viewpoint. The best window runs from May to August, the dry winter, with highs of 25 to 26 °C and only 5 to 28 mm of rain a month. Summer is hotter and wetter, with 339 mm in December and 331 mm in January.
For visitors, Brumadinho is basically one word: Inhotim. The town sits about 55 km from Belo Horizonte and is home to the Inhotim Institute, the country's largest open-air contemporary art museum. It covers more than 140 hectares of botanical garden, with more than 4,000 plant species, and more than twenty galleries with signature architecture scattered among lakes, royal palms and shaded paths. The collection began in the 1980s, assembled by the businessman Bernardo Paz, and became a museum open to the public in 2006. Today it holds about 700 works by more than 60 Brazilian and international artists.
The sheer size is part of the experience. Inhotim brings together works by Hélio Oiticica, Adriana Varejão and Cildo Meireles, among others, in galleries that engage with the landscape around them: the Adriana Varejão Gallery, for example, is a concrete box suspended over a reflecting pool. A full day is the minimum if you don't want to leave frustrated from trying to see everything in a few hours, and it's wise to buy your ticket in advance, especially on weekends and public holidays.
Beyond the grounds of Inhotim, Brumadinho is a mountain town: it has waterfalls such as Águas Claras, trails in the Serra do Rola-Moça State Park and the Topo do Mundo viewpoint, in the Serra da Moeda, popular with hang gliders. The town also carries a mark that cannot be ignored. On January 25, 2019, the collapse of a mining company's tailings dam in the district of Córrego do Feijão killed 272 people. The Brumadinho Memorial, opened in 2025 at the site of the tragedy, honors the victims. It is a recent chapter in the town's history, one that stands alongside the life that goes on around Inhotim.

The region has country restaurants serving wood-fired cooking, colonial-style cafés and producers of cheese and artisanal cachaça (sugarcane spirit) amid the mountain scenery, along the Céu de Montanhas rural tourism route.
